A/C Pulley

Hi,

This is my first post and thanks to the valuable info i found on this site, i was able to remove my a/c clutch ( faceplate pulley and coil) which was badly burnt. I started installing coil, pulley than faceplate. The problem i am having is that i cannot set the gap between the faceplate and the pulley. I inserted all the shims together and i still have no gap. I am pretty sure i seated the coil properly, i am able to insert the pulley snap ring and the pulley turns freely.
The only thing i noticed is that the new pulley is thicker than the old one. The old pulley has 6 groove , the new one has eight. is there different pulley sizes? The parts were ordered separately, they are all oem ford. Can i use the new pulley with more shims? Or did i do something wrong ?

Any help greatly appreciated !

Ford F150 1998 v8 4.6

You have the wrong pulley. Remove it & return it for the correct one.

Update,

The new pulley is the right one. It turned out it is the clutch faceplate that was the wrong part (shorter nose). I ended up returning the clutch parts to the ford dealer. I bought a clutch kit from advanced autoparts ( they had to order it , i got it same day). Has a different design ( field coil different design than stock) but fit perfectly at half the price (99$) and has installation instructions.
I noticed that the compressor does not have a steady cycle pattern? Is it due to ambient temperature? How often does it cycle normally ?

Thanks for the replies.

Clutch cycling depends on MANY factors, including temp inside the cab, temp outside, temp lever setting, refrigerant type & charge, vehicle voltage, evaporator restriction... But it should be fairly steady over a short term (a few minutes). Get a pro to check the operating pressures.
