Question A/C keeps cycling; low on freon?

Compressor/clutch keeps cycling every 3 seconds. The low side hose is not as cold as it should be;actually its only a bit cool.High side hose is its normal hot feeling.I bought one of those cheapy auto parts a/c guages. With the a/c on max cool, fan on high speed, the guage goes from charged to undercharged each time the compressor/clutch is engaged.Low on freon?

BTW,my thermometer in the a/c vent reads 43* at max cool.It usually reads 37*-39*..........

humidity and outside temperature have alot to do with it. You may be over charged, undercharged, or air in the lines. Also possible your txv is freezing over b.c air in the lines. I would atleast get an estimate from a local shop, to determine what is wrong first.

Could be a bad cycling switch on the Rec/Dryer.

From MY experiences, the answer is that it's low, maybe a bit under 1 lb. I'm guessing you live in Florida and it's not terribly hot right now, no? When mine was doing it, it was pretty hot and it cycled on for about 5 seconds and off the same, over and over. Plus the faint sound of hammers in a tin can was heard, Took it to the dealer= $1000 bucks, took it to a rad shop= $80 bucks, that was for the standard inspection fee plus some juice, 1 bottle. The reason it caught my attention was the fact the e-fans were on and off constantly, what a pain. I'd have it checked one way or another, but that's most likely the case, just a hair enough too low. The dealer said the compressor was shot, the clutch was "siezing" and then I'd need a pulley too because they saw a small leak. The rad shop guys said it's supposed to because it's not a closed system, that it's normal. Guess what, I'll go there all the time now just because they treated me right- that's business!

Compressor "short-cycling is almost ALWAYs due to a low refrigerent charge.

You realy need a guage with psi markings....

You were correct.$13.44 at my local Ford dealer for the switch and an o-ring and the compressor does not short cycle any more.I had a friend put his guages on it and the freon is good. The temperature at the vent is 38*!
