Clutch Coil partially out - how to get it back in?

Just removed my a/c clutch pulley last night (22 degrees out - fun!). Will be installing a new one tonight. Bearing was in pieces... Unfortunately in the process I partially dislodged the field coil so it's no longer 'square' with the shaft. What can I use to push it back in? I'm sure hammering isn't the greatest idea but what about using a softer material (wood, etc) against the coil and hammering that? How perfectly square does it need to be to work properly? I'd rather not remove it even though a new one comes with the clutch kit. Thanx in advance for answering my first ever post!
