dreaded heater core/antifreeze inside

After checking out this site, it's alarming how many people have run into a failed
heater core/heater hose problem. I assumed my heater core was bad, seeing no other
leak outside near the hoses or anywhere I can find, but I have antfreeze fogging up the windows and the awful smell inside a few minutes after my 97 XLT warms up.
My question concerns the instument panel removal. I am far into this already, but it seems I can't locate where the plastic panel is hanging up on the passenger side. I have already removed the airbag and all screws I can locate, except the screws on the extreme ends, under the rubber door molding. How do you get those screws out? They are recessed behind the plastic? The Haynes manual is useless!
Some poor soul must have done this already... Thanks for any suggestions.
