2005 Heater core gone bad(ALREADY!)

It appears as though my 2005 F150 SCREW heater core has gone bad already.Windows fogging up,film on windows,no smell, but it's almost gotta be the core.I've got to take it to the dealer (2000 miles out of warranty).I'll let ya know the damage when it's over.
My question is though, why would anyone have to repair something like this SO EARLY?A costly repair shouldn't be needed at 38k miles like this one.I'm beginning to see why FORD(and other domestics) is having quite the problems these days.
A bit PO'd at this point.

the heater core and ac evaporator are usually a very thin steel or copper and therefore are very susceptible to water damage. if you park your truck under a tree that drops a lot of leaves, they all fall into the cowl, rot inside the heater box from the condensation moisture off the evaporator, and it can cause the heater core and/or the evaporator to disintegrate. my best advice is don't park under trees or invest in a cover.

This F150 is garage kept.No leaves in the cowl.
After talking to the dealer service dept.,they don't think it's the heater core as it doesn't fog the windows all the time, doesn't blow smoke all the time. It's worse in the morning, especially cold mornings.
I left it with themyesterday. They're supposed to check it first thing this morning.
If it is the heater core,I have a quote from a local shop for $425,including parts and labor. Not bad IMO.

Update

The service department was finally able to duplicate the problem and yes,it's the heater core. She mentioned electrolysis and asked if I worked around igh voltage lines.Of course,I don't and we've all read about the KNOWN electrolysis problems. Thanks to this site. It's been a great help with this.
