I went into a shop to have an A/C check done, they evac'd the system and recharged it with dyed freon. A week later I went in and we discovered the leak is around the front of the compressor. The guy told me that a new compressor is $400, and after labor, we're talking $550. Anybody know where I can get a new A/C compressor for less? I know I can get a junkyard takeout for $100-$150, but with only a 90 day warranty, I'm kind-of leery about buying another compressor that may have the same problem. The $400 unit is a "remanufacture" with a 1 year warranty through one of the local parts shops.

 

Advance auto - New - $375 Rebuilt - $275
AutoZone - $208 - $300,new or rebuilt.....but,only a 3 month warranty on ALL compressors.
