Climate Control - AC Is On By Default?

It's getting chilly in the mornings here in New England and I'm noticing that even when it's in the 40's, like this morning, the AC is on when I start the truck, climate control temp set to 68. Is this normal? I just manually shut off the AC but I'm wondering why the AC comes on by default when it's heat that I want.

Any ideas?

Even though the light is on, it should not be running the compressor if it is not needed. I would check to see if the compressor is engaged. The Auto function should make all those decisions for you based on the temp you select. This is how it was explained to me.

Thanks. I'll listen for the compressor to engage. I just see the 'AC' indicator on the display and assume it's on. It does go off when I hit the 'AC' button.

That makes sense though and I bet you're right.

Thanks

If you're turning it on to either floor/defrost or full defrost, the AC compressor will turn on.

Consult your owner's manual.

AC compressor operation is typically enabled in ALL climate control positions EXCEPT OFF, FLOOR, and VENT.

A lot depends on what year you have and whether you have a manual or automatic climate control, information you did not provide.

In any event, RTFM...
