A/C question

I recently drove my truck on a long trip (200 miles) to visit my parents and noticed the A/C compressor/clutch keep going on and off every few seconds? Is this normal? The whole time during crusing my A/C was on level 1 with the re-circulate off. Anyone else have this problem?

I just did have it, turned out to be a low refrigerant level. The compressor should cycle yes, but not every few seconds. If the temp of the A/C is good, it should be fine. Also, with a low charge, I could actually hear it inside, like a gentle hammering noise, now nothing. The only way I know it's on is because the e-fans cycle with it.
