Question Dodge Dakota compressor damage

Recently was told the AC condenser on my 2004 Dodge Dakota was damaged by a rock, which necessitated replacement (cost: approximately $1000, parts and labor). Is such damage possible? Is this perhaps a design flaw? I'm female, not mechanically inclined, and have no idea where the condenser might be exposed to such road damage. I am concerned that my ignorance may be costing me. Was told warranty did not cover this issue.... (NOTE: my original posting referenced a compressor in error. The replacement was indeed of a condenser. Thank you to Quintin for getting that clear!)

Damaged by a rock? You sure you don't mean condenser, instead of compressor? A rock strike poking a hole in a condenser can happen if the planets are aligned properly. What your dealer deems as warrantable and not can vary depending on the dealer; you might want to try another dealer, see if they'll be able to help you with the repairs any.
