A/C Won't charge?

I "won" a 96 F-150 with 144k miles. Being in the south (and with plastic seats) the first thing I tried was the A/C. It started blowing cool (not cold) then got warm and stayed that way. I thought it was low on refrigerant. I tried adding some, but it won't go in. It basically fills the hose then vents out. It does not go into the system. Is there something more than plugging in the quick-disconnect fitting? System already charged enough and its another problem?

Thanks

Steve

I had the same problem on my 1990. Fully charged and wouldn't cool. Turned out the orifice tube was blocked because the dryer took a dump. new screen, new dryer, and things were much cooler.

Of course, your mileage may vary.
