A/C slow to cool, compressor noisy

Hey there, I go to leave work and am noticing that as soon as I fire it up and turn the A/C on, just at a low setting, it blows cool, but takes a while to blow cold. Now, when the clutch engages, turning on the e fans, it does cool a lot more. I haven't driven around alot with it on, and it seems to be charged (had a top up a year ago) but is slow. I don't know, just seemed colder all around last year. Now, blendor has been replaced, at the time it was checked and topped up a year ago. The compressor or just the clutch sounds noisy when the clutch is engaged, so I guess the clutch is the root cause. It sounds like stones in a large tin can rattling, is this ok or what. Still have that whistle too, seems to be noticed after the blendor service so??? Any thaughts guys?

Actually, I did go for a bit of a ride and noticed it worked alright as far as temp went but the other issues listed above remain, any help?

Well, again to answer my own question, I checked the tubes at the firewall, and one, the thinner, is definetely colder than the thicker which is actually room temp like. I guess I need a charge, from what Haynes tells me.
