I think I only need an a/c clutch...

OK,

Motor on, no AC = everything runs great
Motor on, MAX AC = slight surging, ac pulley will slip an inch for a few secs(smell of burning rubber emitted)(belt slippage i think), and then finally spin out for a couple seconds... no smoke

Just wanted to verify that this sounds like the A/C clutch and not anything else.

Also, is it unanimous that I should buy the clutch from FORD rather than a chain?

Thanks Everyone,
Justin

Same Problem Almost

I have the same problem almost. I engage the AC at Max AC and all I get is regualr air. Not cooled. I watch the RPM's and I do see a slight dip as the AC is engaged. I had by old man engage the AC while watching and could not see the cluth spinning. Should it spin or should it be stationary? I did a pressure test today and the refrigerant is full. How can I disinguish between a faulty Compressor or clutch?

Just curious what your problem ended up being? My Expo is doing the exact same thing. Thanks.
