Defrost/Floor Noise

I have an 05 SC Lariat with automatic climate control. On start up in auto and when swithing from floor to defrost I get very loud growl from the doors in the dash changing position. The dealer has replaced two motors including the defrost/floor controler and it still does it. They now say Ford knows of the problem but they do not have a fix for it at this time. Has anyone else heard this or have the same problem? One tech told me to turn the radio up and I would not hear it.

Let me know what you find. If it is as common as my dealer indicated more people should know about it.

Mine does it also. To me, it just sounds like the hinges and interfaces need some decent (lithium or other unscented) grease on it.

Made my apointment for the 24th.......let you know what they say. If I don't start the truck.....just turn on the key....and have the climate control on.....I get that loud growl.....also when I'm driving and the climate control makes a change it makes the same noise.

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. Dropped off the truck on Monday morning for the regular 12000 mile service and the assorted other problems. when we got to the noise from the climate control he started to say it was normal......but I stopped him in mid sentence and told him that it wasn't like that for the first 6000 or so miles and that it was defininetly not normal and anyone in the truck with me is always surprised at the noise.....so he said thay would check it out. Later that day he called and said they needed to order some parts and a door for the climate control and when they came in they would install them.....and I would need to leave the truckfor a day or 2. So still not resolved but looking up......I'll keep you informed.

I still say to tell them to just grease the doors' hinges.

Picked up the truck today. They fixed the problem.....no noise.....the service person said it was a valve assembly. They also replaced the entire ashtray assembly which was great too because that was rattling for a while. I had it loaded with foam to stop the noise.

I will call in them in the morning. I assume the valve assembly controls the blend and diversion doors.
Thanks for your help. I hope they listen to me.
Thanks again!!

My dealer said, that part number is for a control valve under the dash for the operation of the four-wheel drive. They still contend Ford knows of the blend door motor problem with no fixes in sight. Said everyone else is just living with it. The noise my truck makes when it warms up and cools down the cabin sounds just like it's passing gas as it changes. They do not want to do anything additional at this point. I hope I find something soon, I hate spending the kind of money these trucks cost to put up with this.
