AC/defrost also blows thru heater vent...
Hi AC folks,
2001 Screw is blowing air thru heater vent when ac or defrost is on. I would say about 1/3 volume of airflow of if I have the heater on. All my dash vents blow fine & defrost works fine. Heater works fine when it is on. All controls, hisses & thunks seem to be normal ac heat def. operation. If I close the dash vents, the floor volume increases. Seems to be more air on the drivers side than the passenger side. All I know is that my right foot is real cold!
Okay, so please tell me what is wrong, broke or missing. I hope it's not the blend door. That looks like fun. Thank you for your time.

It's not the blend door. That is what is used to adjust temperature, not direction of outlet airflow.
Airflow is directed by a series of doors inside the plenum, each controlled by a vacuum motor.
I'd guess that your problem is one of the following:
Broken/disconnected crank arm (from actuator)
Bad vacuum motor
Loose/damaged vacuum line to vacuum motor
Faulty HVACcontrol head, whether EATC or manual.

I am experiencing similar symptoms, except my ac/heat is only blowing through the defrost. A dealer diagnosed and they said there were bad internal solenoids and that the unit would need to be replaced. Is there a way to temporarily direct the air through the vents?
Thanks
Steven
Thanks

thanks,
I'll stand on my head under there while the settings get changed. Hopefully I can see/hear/feel stuff opening & closing. I never thought of something blocking it. Who knows what may be causing it. Thanks, it's a start.
