I have a '99 F150. Early this summer, I noticed a clunk and slight grinding noise when I turn on the A/C. It does it every time now, and seems to be getting worse.

I'm not a great mechanic, and am horrible at diagnosing these problems. Any pointers? Thanks

 

How severe is the clunk? Does it sound like a rush of fluid filling a tube and then hitting something?
