Compressor Running Constantly

Here the scoop. The A/C wasn't blowing very cold on a recent trip and the compressor was cycling like this. 10 sec. engaged, 4 sec disengaged, 10 sec engaged etc. Outside temp was 87*.

Took the truck to the dealer today and they stated the A/C system was low in refrigerant, so they evacuated the old and put in new. The A/C is nice and cold now, but the compressor runs constantly--never disengaging. Outside temp was 90*.

Here's my question before I take it to the "technicians." Is the system functioning normally--aka compressor running constantly? If not, what could be the problem. I try to become educated on things I don't know about--A/C systems. Thanks.

As long as the lines aren't freezing up, I wouldn't worry about it. Idle the engine up a bit and see if it cuts off. At operating temperature with 90 degree ambient temps, the compressor shouldn't be cycling too often.

The lines aren't icing up, but they do have condensation on them. I idled the truck up for a minute or so at 2000-2500 rpm and the compressor didn't cycle on-off even once.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

The compressor will cycle on and off when the outside air temperature cools off. As others mentioned as long as nothing is icing up consider the system to be working fine. If it were 90* outside and the compressor was cycling on and off you would most likely be low on Refrigerant.
