Heater broken - not a thermostat prob
My truck will not blow hot air. The air isn't cold (i.e., outside temp), and there's a new thermostat and coolant. Temperature guage is normal. I've read some things here about pulling off the **** to see if it's actually turning the control - can't get the **** off
Any other ideas? My trusty mechaninc thinks it might be the "Heater control" device. He didn't want to take the time to look into it.
thanks!!

Couple ideas to check out,
1. Coolant level, Sure its full?
2. While running at normal temp, feel the heater hoses (carefully), they should both be at full temperature, HOT!! That will prove the flow in/out of the heater core is ok. If not - the water pump, thermostat, coolant level or plugged core could be a guess.
3. The dash Temperature ****?? get it off and check for the receiving hole to be cracked. That would prevent the **** from actually turning the control post.
Good Luck,
Don

Just pull on the **** to get it off. If you have to replace the actual rheostat, you have to remove the face plate for the heat control area. You may have to loosen the radio to get to the mounting screws for the control panel out. Once you have this done, just unplug the rheostat and remove it. Takes less than 10 minutes.
Re: Solved the problem - thanks!
FYI for future reference to all.
To Remove Temperature Selector ****: Orient it vertically (aka half way between full hot and full cold) and then pull it off.
