another a/c question

This isnt about a ford but please help if you can. My parents have a 2000 durango and need some a/c help. You guys have helped me so much with my truck i figured i would just ask. The durango has front and rear a/c. Only the rear blows cold. The front blows, so i know its not the fan but its not cold. I dont think it has two compressors, unless its hidden really good cause i dont see it. Any suggestions would be a big help. a/c repair is so expensive, just trying to save them a few(hundred) bucks. Thanks

sounds like the switch or push-button or whatever the Dodge has up there. I had the same problem with my Freightliner (work truck) they replaced the compressor and belt and finally tried the switch and that was it...

good luck...

tell them to get Ford from now on..heh heh

Dual air systems use the same compressor and condensor, they just split the low side between two evaps. This means they also use two oriface tubes ( or h blocks) depending on the system. If you are really getting cold air in the rear then you can assume that pressures are ok. You might either have a blockage in the front system or the heater valve for the front is defective and dosen't shut off the hot water. That is a real common problem and easy to check. Clamp off the heater hoses going the the front heater core and see if you get any cold air then. Otherwise your looking at a system repair which will prob. entail an evac. and recharge plus parts.

If I clamp the hoses off will it cause any pressure in the sytsem and damage something else? I dont want to cause any more harm than already exists.

You are stopping the flow of water to the heater, not the a/c hoses. The blend door in the front might not be working properly and it is letting hot air mix with the cold air of the a/c in the front.
