Quirky A/C Problem - 1997 F150

I have a quirky A/C problem on my 1997 F150 with a 4.6L V8. When I start the vehicle in the morning the A/C works great and this continues for from 30-90 minutes. The warmer it is outside the shorter the time it works, but always for at least 30 minutes.

I have evacuated the system and recharged it even though it was only slightly down. This did not change the problem.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

JT

When you did the evac and recharge, did you pull vacum? You need to use a vacum pump and pull down the system for 30 minutes or so. This removes moisture from the system. If you have moisture in the system then after the system gets cold the moisture will freeze. This will cause a blockage and then the A/C stops working.

I appreciate your respose. The mechanic who did the evac did do 30 minutes of vacuum to remove any moisture so I don't think that was the prblems. The symptoms remain the same. Great if its only a thirty minute drive.

Turned out to be clutch

As with other posts on this site, my quirky problem turned out to be the clutch. The mechanic that I now go to adjusted the clutch and now the A/C works perfect. Thanks to all who helped directly or posted other messages relating to this subject. Great forum.
