AC recharge question

My truck has a very slow coolant leak, or at least it needs recharging every couple years. This year I decided to do the recharge myself using a kit from Wally World. Can anyone tell me where the port for recharging is located? I thought it may be the one at the back, right side of the engine compartment. It has a tag on it that says evap recharge port. The only thing is I cant fit the recharge hose on the port due to where it is located. The kit comes with a snap on fitting and the port is threaded. Is this the right port?

Maybe doing it myself is not the best idea.

There are two types of charge used on autos and trucks. R12 And 134a. The ports are different to prevent you from mixing the two types. They won't mix. There should be a tag somewhere under the hood to tell which type you have.

Thanks Mike. I was under the impression it was all 134a by 2000.

Most Fords I've seen are 134 after 1993 or 1994. If your truck is a 1997 or up, it is R134A. The low side fitting is located on the accumulator which bolted to the firewall on the passenger side. The fitting is on the top of the accumulator. You may need to remove the electrical box cover directly over the accumulator to gain access.

It is exactly where you said it was. No problem at all to recharge and the air is frosty.
