No Heat
U will not need to drain anything to replace a blend door.
But I will give you a tip, even if it seem like it won't matter,
TRUST ME.. prior to pulling the dash turn the key on and set the temp selector to the medium position ( 12 o'clock )
You will see what I mean when you go to put the new door in place. It makes it so much easier.
Just be sure that you remember that the door is plastic and it can break installing, so be careful, good luck, and let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Just the sort of info I was looking for, man this site is the greatest help resource you can find.
My problem is similar to brut28481's only a little different but it might be just the way I see it. First I do need to check my **** real close I guess (man it feels dirty to say that, LOL). Here's what I've noticed back last fall. I was going to work and needed heat but it wouldn't produce any, the day before it was hot and it had been set to cool. After truck had sit for 6-8 hours at work all seemed fine. Fat foward to this spring and this time I was trying to go to AC form that morning's heat setting and it wouldn't go to cool. AC compressor also makes a whine when outside temp is more than 75 but does cool. Let it sit and all is fine. Last night I tried to go from cool to heat and again it felled to make the switch. Let it sit overnight started today and warmed up and had heat.
Now my thought is if was a vacuum leak should show up all the time. Also I thought I read that the blend door is electrically controlled so that agains rules out vacuum. My thoughts are now that something is binding or something is broke but, if was broke it would again do it all the time. Is it possibale that the system gets confused or doesn't sense the signal to change?

brut28481, I think I have the same problem. I guess I haven't looked close enough to see if anything is cracked. My temp control has a mind of its own though. How was it removing the dash?
FordMasterTech, if by some chance it's just the blend door actuator, can that be replaced without removing everything else?
