Compressor problem

Over the weekend, my A/C stopped working. With the A/C on, the compressor clutch doesn't engage.

I have verified that the cycling switch isn't the problem (jumped the cycling switch connector and the clutch still doesn't engage). I measured 12+ volts on one of the wires going to the cycling switch.

I also unplugged the wiring harness from the compressor and found that one of the wires (can't remember the color) has about +7 volts going to it.

Is there only 7 volts at that wire due to the voltage drop of the diode? Or should there be a full 12+ volts going to the clutch?

Thanks for any help

What year model is it?? I can access my wiring diagrams for you..

Also, one thing to check is on the other wire at the cycle switch to make sure that you have a good ground..

FordMasterTech - thanks for the help. My truck is a '98 (I don't think it should matter, but it is a 4.6 auto).

I will check the ground tonight.

Thanks again.

Ignore my previous comment... Checking for a ground there is incorrect.. Your resistance won't be accurate because it will be going through the compressor clutch before grounding..

I have sent you an email..

Follow directions inside for the help you need..
