New Steering Wheel with Radio Controls

Ive looked around a cant find a definite answer on this.
I have a 2010 F150 XLT and it only had cruise control. So I upgraded the wheel to the leather wrapped one with all controls. All the buttons illuminate but the audio controls do not function. I was wondering if there was a way to establish the output by putting in a new head unit (like a double din screen)
I called some aftermarket places and they sound unsure

Thanks in advance

The CAN BUS system is where the programming for this shold be. If your truck didnt have this previously then most likely it wont have it already programed. That said, a ford dealer SHOULD be able to program it in. Also if you have the basic audio system in your truck it also may not have sttereing wheel control option.

As for an after market system, again not sure, depends on if the sttering wheel controls work as a pass through in the can bus or need to be programmed. Either way with an aftermarket deck that has the option for steering wheel control you will need an interface like the AXXESS ASWC.

Unfortunatly, you wont really know until you try it.

Thanks for the reply. Ford acted like they didn't really want to fool with it (go figure). I was able to go to an aftermarket place that and he said he should be able to do it. He pulled the head unit and looked at some things before deciding. He said he could trace the wires and install the appropriate adapter to make them functional. Hopefully this works

If you're still around, did this work? I want to do the same thing.

The radio may need to be programmed, but more importantly, the wiring from the clock spring to the radio needs to be installed. Two wires will need to be run from pins 18 and 19 on the 24 pin connector behind the radio to the appropriate pins on the clock spring.
