2012 head unit swap clarification

I have searched a few times but I can't quite find the answers I'm looking for.

Last week I replaced my 2010 2wd Lariat with a 2012 FX4. The factory nav radio in the Lariat was 1000x better than the non nav unit in the new FX4.

I would like to replace the head unit with a double DIN nav unit. My concern is losing the steering wheel controls and not cutting wires to avoid warranty issues.

Steering wheel- I dont really care about losing sync and Im not to concerned about the right side buttons. It would be nice to keep the volume adjust but not at the expense of cutting the wires. I assume the Axxess and PAC unit do the same thing. Can either be installed with harness adapters or will they require cutting wires? Is one preferred over the other?

Are the left side controls affected at all?

Any other things I should be concerned with?

Hey JWW,

not sure if you have replaced the unit yet, but there is a company coming out with an interface for the new Fords something this summer I believe. As of right now, it's only working with Kenwoods, but I think they are going to expand it. From what I have seen, it should be pretty sweet. I just ordered a 2012 FX4 without the Factory Navi (Price was just to much for factory, there is so much more I can do for that $$$)

Here is a video of the product:

Hope it helps
