Wiring
I always twist the wires in line with each other and then solder and tape. When I say in line, I don't twist them like you would for a wire nut, but flat.
I've always done it this way and have never had an issue down the line. The crimp caps can have problems of them coming off due to vibration (this may be a rare situation) but not worth the risk in my opinion. My biggest problem with the crimp caps however was just how much room they take up. This isn't much of an issue on the F150's but you would never get away with that big crimp mess on a Volkswagon or a lot of the european cars with tight dashes.

I just got done doing this yesterday. I usually get the double open end crimp types, this time I payed an extra buck or two and got the ones that had heat shrink on them. We had some that had heat shrink and solder in one of our kits while I was deployed, we ended up using them all or I would have brought them home with me.
Just don't buy the adapter harness with multiple connectors for different year fords. Best buy has the one you'll need for 20 bucks plus any sales tax.

Okay, thanks.
For those that don't remember, I was an idiot when I got my truck and my buddy and I decided to cut the truck wiring harness to rig up my radio, so now I bought the truck wiring harness piece and will be wiring it up correctly. As in what this MS Paint diagram shows:
