NO!!! I own the app radio for about 5 months now. It sucks! The concept behind it is great. The problem is the software on it. The sign that tells you to put on the parking break comes up every 5 secs. The cord if broken has to be replaced which means going behind the dash to do it. Go with a different pioneer radio with a cd player and a usb port. Also, something i did not like is the apps they decided to allow on it arent the ones I use. Like the GPS apps, i use Mapquest, and the they dont.

I will say the app radio is good if you can fix the problems.

Just bought and installed one of the AppRadio 2's (SPH-DA100) yesterday and was wondering what you all did to bypass the safety precautions as far as not using the GPS, etc. while moving? I tried to do what I did with my JVC unit and splice the parking brake wire into the ground and that did not work. According to AVIC411.com they say you can either use a relay or a two post switch...has anyone done this? If so, posting some pics or a description of the process would be awesome, thanks!

I just went and bought a regular relay and put it in. It was very simple, but the way the App radio is set up it has to be engaged, disengaged, then reengaged, which requires you to turn your truck on, then off and cycle the door, then turn it back on. This is a pain. So unless I wired it wrong or something, I would recommend a toggle switch that you can cut on, off, and back on. There is a video on YouTube on how to do it just search installing a bypass relay on app radio, the guy does it on a Toyota but the steps are the same for putting the relay/switch on.

What systems are you all running with your app radio? I'm looking to get either 2 10" subs or a single 12" I just don't know what would sound better so I'm searching for some advice. I'll prob use a JL class D amp and some Bose speakers, I'm just not sure what to do about the subs.

Well I got the AppRadio on Thursday of last week and did my install. I'm going to go back through and tweak some things to my liking (GPS antenna mounting location, iPhone dock location, etc.) and add the bypass probably this evening. I have looked into both the relay option and the toggle switch option. I think I am going to go with the toggle switch. It seems like a pretty simple solution and looks like all I have to do is wire it to the ground and the parking brake wire so that a switch simulates the action of applying and releasing the parking brake.

As for the unit - Overall I like it. There are a few things about it that I don't particularly care for though:
- The bypass process. I wish it was as simple as grounding the parking brake wire like I have done with head units in the past.
- Having to use the phone frequently to open apps - which has lead me to look at an alternate way to mount the phone for easy access.
- Swiping the menus - I sometimes fat-finger it and accidentally hit a button.

What I like about it:
- BT is awesome...love it. It is completely compatible with my iPhone 4S which was the main reason that drove me towards it.
- Pandora is perfect...the user interface is nice and it is just convenient to have. I rarely listen to the radio and this provides a nice opportunity to vary what I listen to on the iPod.
- Apparently with the bypass process it will allow you to stream Netflix through the unit, my girlfriend will enjoy this so that is always a plus.

Overall I enjoy the unit - the cons that I've found so far I think are things that I'm just not used to yet. This unit replaced a JVC KW-AVX740 head unit so I am very happy with the step up. The unit also looks good installed in the dash. Much cleaner than most units available currently. The quality of the pics isn't that great because with the combination of sunlight and glare I wasn't able to get a good pic which I am surprised about because I've noticed very little sunlight glare on the head unit itself.

Also, I am running a 10'' JL Sub in a Stealthbox off of a Jl 250/1 amp with factory door speakers and the AppRadio2

That's pretty badass but knowing myself and my driving habits I'd spend more time playing with the iPad than watching the road haha

Yea if I had a new F150, I'd definitely throw an iPad headunit in there. If the gen 2 app radio doesn't have problems, I'll probably sell my AVH-P4300DVD. My phone upgrade is up around the time Apple should launch the new iPhone as well.

Those other Pioneer headunits look pretty sweet too.

To late, lol. So far I'm enjoying it, but, since I only have a 3GS, I don't really know what it can do fully.

I don't listen to CD's or anything, just the radio.

I'm installing a rocker switch that is going to be in my cigarette lighter. Just flip it on, off, on and it should work. I'll let you guys know.

As for the AppRadio vs AppRadio 2, you can really tell a difference in the 0.8" screen.

Why not the automation of a relay?

I installed a small toggle switch and then wired it into the ash tray. I also just have my phone sitting in the ash tray with the switch. I seem to be getting some nasty interference when using the bluetooth on my head unit...I get a in and out high-pitched shrill. Definitely sounds like radio interference of some sort.

Don't know where to get one, and a switch is a cheaper alternative.

Oh... Well, you can get "Bosch type" relays at an auto parts store, but they're expensive for what they are. Of course, you could always just yank several out of a car in a salvage yard for cheap.
