Has anyone did a Shaker 500 radio swap on 07-08 F150? I was wanting to know how it worked and if there were any problems or was it reprogrammed how did it work after it was done? Where was it reprogrammed at?

I put in a Shaker from an 06 Mustang, sounded great, really made a difference, then learned that my iPod wouldn't play through the aux, had to be a 2007 or newer.

Found an 08 Shaker, here on the site, sounded great, looked great, iPod worked, but the backlight/dimmer would not respond to the dimmer switch. Shop foreman fooled with it, called our factory radio distributor, no help with 'programming'.

So I went to an 08 6 disc with sat from a member here. Nice unit, but does not sound like the Shakers.

BTW- whats crazy is, the 06 unit responded to the dimmer, the 08 did not. The distributors theory was that the '06 had an analog dimmer, while the 08 was different. Who knows.

'fore anyone asks, this truck will end up with my son, I wanted to keep it stealthy. Or I'd have slapped an AVIC in it.

would it display bright or very dim?

 

The last one I tried was dim, as if the lights were on- hard to see in the daylight. I have another, but I haven't tried it yet-

If you have a 05-06 you need one from an 05 -06 I have done this personaly IF you have an 07-08 you need one from them. I just found that out since the dimm on an 05-06 is electric and the dime on an 07-08 is on the CAN BUS. if you put a 07-08 in an 05 -06 you get a medium night display always. if you put a 05-06 in a 07-08 you get non dimming or no light I forget which. You can fix the 05-06 in an 07-08 with a jumper from the switch and a ground but you may (probally will) need two pins from a doner radio harness to do this or wire one from a re-wire harness.

On the other side if you need an 07-08 I have a nice shaker 500 one that is clean clean. IT works in my 05 but won;t go to day mode because of the later setup in the 07-08 with the CAN system in them.
