Help me pick out a head unit - requirements inside!
Hoping you guys can help me pick out a headunit for my 2004 F-150 supercrew. Everything is 100% stock basic system (no factory amps)
Here are the features I want:
Features that would be really nice, but not 100% necessary:
Features that I DON'T need or not willing to pay extra for:
I will probably also hook up a nice 4 channel amp and replace the front and real speakers. Will probably not add anything else, no subs.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Here are the features I want:
- plays CD's and Mp3's on CD's
- Able to connect usb hard drives/devices and play from there
- Aux input for my smartphone
- HD radio (I want to check it out)
- detachable face for security
Features that would be really nice, but not 100% necessary:
- double DIN or DIN and a half to take up all that space. If I got the room, lets use it!
- Bluetooth call features/speakerphone, with being able to plug a microphone in.
- Bluetooth A2DP so I can play music from my android smartphone over my stereo without wires.
- DVD or movie file playing capability do I can play movies for the kids in the back seat while we are on road trips. I have no need to play movies on the headunit itself, so I dont care about large screen for that etc.
Features that I DON'T need or not willing to pay extra for:
- navigation. I have that on my smartphone already.
- Satellite radio. Had it, dont want it. Listen to lots of podcasts and mp3.
I will probably also hook up a nice 4 channel amp and replace the front and real speakers. Will probably not add anything else, no subs.
Thanks for any suggestions!

My next one's going to be the jvc kw-nt3hdt

It is a nav unit, but it satisfies all your basics and I think most of your additional. Don't do the bluetooth thing, but from doing the kw-nt1 install it looked like it had most of that.
Double DIN, detachable face, and the one thing it has that is truly kick *** is the sd card slot. I've got a 64gb card with 400+ albums of mp3s ripped at 320 with my current one.

Check out the unit in my sig. Single DIN, but the mount kit gives me a handy utility pocket. Has a USB connection, but it's on the back (no prob for me as I have the cable routed to my glove box so it doesn't show.) Pretty sure you can get an HD radio add-on for it, or that Pio makes a unit just above this one with HD capability. You can also get a BlueTooth add-on for it. Again, pretty sure Pio makes one just above this with built-in BT capability. Best part was the price... under $150.
