New Cheap Setup Help

I am looking to get a cheap head unit with an AUX input in the front (or some other way of hooking an iPod up to it) for my dads 1986 Tioga motorhome. It currently has the stock HU with a tape player, but all his tapes are worn out and you can no longer read the display to tell what station you are on. Looking to spend less than $70. I was looking at the Pioneer DEH-12E, but I dont know much about car audio.

I am also looking to replace the stock blown out 6.5" speakers in the doors. Want to spend less than $20 on each of these.

Any suggestions guys (and gals)?

I know someone has installed a cheap deck to play their iPod so tell me what you have and how you like it.

I have a cheap (but not that cheap) Pioneer HU in my truck. At your price point, there really isn't going to be much difference, they all will have problems with clunky functions and usability, and be low on power. Buy one that's closest to the features you want.

My HU has the ipod control, but I don't like it. I don't think any HU is easier to use than the ipod itself (except Sync, which isn't available aftermarket). I just use the aux input.

At your price point, I'd probably just go to walmart and get a HU/speaker kit. With the holidays coming up, you can probably get one day after Thanksgiving for $100 or so.

It's worth buying the installation kit and wiring harness.

Hit some of the audio forums and look for someone upgrading their unit and wanting to sell the factory speaks. If you're lucky you might be able to get them for the cost of shipping. Also check with local stereo shops for pullouts.
