Stuck CD door

I know it's not a F150 but my wife has been bugging me and I can't fix this. She drives a 2002 Escape. We bought it new and it really has been trouble free for us. However, about a week ago she comes in and tells me her CD is stuck in her radio. She has the stock 6 CD unit in her Escape. There are currently I think 4 CD's in the unit. The door that opens to load and eject the CD's is stuck in the open position. I can't get any CD's out or load any different ones into the unit. It just keeps coming up "CD ERROR" on the readout. I pulled the unit out of the dash and pulled the front face off the unit too. I cannot figure out how the heck I am going to fix this. Truth be told it stuck one other time and I smacked the dash and it came unstuck. I beat the crap out of it this time and it doesn't budge. Everything else works on the unit fine. Has anyone else ever had this issue and fixed it? Or anyone just know how to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks guys.

The CD6 from Visteon is garbage. I had one in my 2003 Excape.

Either the internal magazine is stuck or else the power needs to be recycled for it to go through it's self-check. Sometimes recycling the power will fix it. If not, you have to take apart the unit which if you are not technically/electronically savvy will be an issue. There's this site called www.escape-central.com that has forums on this vehicle. But be wary, some of the users on there are complete morons. So I would just search for the answer on that site.

Well I finally had a chance to look at the wife's radio again. Believe it or not, after disconnecting the battery, the POS worked again. WOO HOO!! Now maybe she will quit bugging me. Thanks for the help.
