im looking at how all these new HU's have a front USB port in them.
i have a flash memory:

its the 4GB. i have 2 of these with all my music on them. can i buy a HU with a front USB port and play my music through the headunit using the flash drive?

 

Am I missing something?

1. Pick the HU you are considering.
2. Go to the HU manufacturer's website.
3. Downloand manual.
4. Read manual and determine HU capability?

 

If it has USB port then yes. Some of them require the drive to be formatted in fat32 and not nctwhatever. As long as you match the correct format (done by reformatting the drive) you can.

 

thanks, i didnt know they had to possibly be reformatted (depending on the HU). i was just wondering how the files are picked on the HU to play a album or maybe just a song. does the albums show up on the screen or something?

so basically i pick a HU with a USB port.
find out which format it is
change the format on the flash drive
and ill be set?

 

maybe the part where im not so PC savy?
im just asking for help?

im just worried of making a $300+ mistake. all im looking for is a HU that scrolls (like in the video) using the flash drive...

Well, if you do make a mistake, at least it 1) will be YOUR mistake and 2) not because you didn't thoroughly research it.

You may want to check your local car audio store (Best Buy?). If they have a demo unit you can could take a USB flash drive and actually play with it. Just a thought.
