anyone else have a problem with the scosche dash kit?

i picked up a dash kit for my 97 a little bit ago and finally got around to putting in a new radio the other day. i ran into ALOT of problems with the scosche install kit.

for one, i had to dremel down the sides in order for it to even fit in the hole. then i had to snap damn near all of the clips on the kit off to get it to set right!
after 15 minuets of trimming and breaking, i think i got it settled right. anyone else run into these problems?

here it is. i think its all good now...

Haven't installed any others beside mine, but I think it might be upside down.

same problem here. I haven't fixed mine though, the trim just isn't right.

I'm thinking of getting one of these to see if it fits any better. Plus I want the 'not pocket' for other reasons. I'm thinking maybe it'll do better since it's more vehicle specific, as opposed to the typical scosche and metra kits you find in the store that supposedly fit anything with a blue oval and some things without. words of wisdom anybody?

I had excellent luck with the American International kit in my 07. I went with it over Scosche or Metra because I was seeing a lot of the problems described in this thread (some kits being a little too universal, overall fitment, etc).

Well, if I get to it first, I'll let you know how it turns out. This will be after a couple more pressing bills.

I checked out the AI website, I think they must have something against the 97-98 trucks.

yeah scosche is junk....we sell a lot of it at my work and i always prefer the metra equivalent. most of their dash kits dont line up correctly and modifications need to be made. theres only a couple that are solid.

X2

i had an 04 f150 heritage(97-03 style) my dash looked like yours and i had mine upside down from yours and it worked perfectly without any modifying and it was a scosche. got it from walmart. but now i have my 08 and i just installed my cd player a few weeks ago. i went to a car audio place and the company they had was called BESTKITS. the instructions are good, have a few things you have to figure out but they arent that hard. but it worked perfectly too.
also, you have too much crap in your truck looks like my firebird i had. 8 neon lights plugged into 3 outlet adaptors which were all plugged into the lighter. never blew a fuse but it looked like medusa's hair

I just picked one up for my 99 f150 at car stereo city for 15$, went right in..no tabs to break off, nothing. By far the easiest/best one I've used. A nice flush finish. Would be the same year/fit as yours.
