Solder or Crimp

When I get home in May I will be taking on the task of installing my new P-3200DVD . So I was wondering what everybody thought would be better soldering or crimping the wires. Any input would be great.

Everyone's prob gonna bust my ***** for this, but there ive crimped every single deck harness ive ever done and never had a issue with a wire coming disconnected. a properly crimped connection is perfectly acceptable.

solder ftw, although i do crimp HU harnesses, i solder all amp connections and such

I crimp amp connections as well, however I use a bench vise to do it and not kliens. I use solder on vital remote start connections, and use military splice method for hardwiring sat radios, gps', etc.

wanna send me a pm tellin me the best way to hardwire my radar and gps? i had it hard wired once upon a time and it stopped working :/

What units do you have? In these trucks the best place to get switched is either at the radio or the ignition harness.

I always solder mine, just personal preference really.

Sundevil do you use the crimp terminals with the heat shrink? Seen that in a couple of best buy installs.

I personally dont. But then again my shop was never sent any heatshrink. I just use the regular crimp caps...never had any issues.

Either way will be fine if you do a good job. Best bet would be both!

Has anybody ever tried those sealed solder butt connectors? I am just looking for the best and easiest way to do this project.

Yeah ive seen em, in my opinion, it takes more time then just soldering the wire and heatshrinking. But then again, it only takes me about a minute and a half or two minutes to strip a harness and connect with crimp caps. Ive just gotten fast through repetition.

Personally I use solder and gooey heat shrink. Just have since my first Jeep. I use the Ford method of looping the wires and soldering and then use shrink tube with glue inside. It costs very little and has held on everything, not one failure. I use this for all my connections on my rock crawler and everything else. IMO it is the best way, no butt connectors, no stupid caps (No offense Sun Devil but I hate Best Buy and everything about them, hence why I will never use caps) and certainly no solder and tape just because its not clean.

My Dad is an electronic engineer and it just runs in my blood.....

I never understood why you would spend the time to solder a connection and still use electrical tape on it lol

I solder and heat shrink now but have crimped in the past with no problems.
