a better double din bracket??

Please see the attached pic. I'm using the Crutchfield supplied bracket, and there is about a 1/4 inch gap at the top of the head unit. It's driving me crazy. Is there a better bracket that will allow the head unit to sit flush with the surrounding trim pieces? The head unit is a Kenwood DNX-8120. Thanks for your help!

Most definitely, Metra. Available at any Best Buy or online anywhere.

Keep in mind that with a flip down motorized screen, if you sit it completely flush with the dash kit, you may hit the bottom of the kit. Ran into this problem in a newer mustang with a DNX 7140. The newer mustang uses the same dash kit as the F150's.

American International. I used one in my 07 and was thoroughly impressed. The only caveat is that I had to use some of the included tabs to space out the top of the bracket to compensate for the depth (just like the inset problem in your picture). Other than that the bracket was well made with what appears to be quality materials, heavily constructed, and simple to install.

I found out about AI brackets on another forum. They have an excellent rep and come recommended over the Metra and Schosche brackets.

Mazz, I too have a 2007 with a kenwood DNX-7120 I bought from crutchfield. The kit they gave me was a metra. On the 07 and 08's the mounting depth changed and the reccesses in the dash where the four screws that hold the radio in are set back a little farther than the 04-06's. Ther should have been four little plastic spacers and four longer screws with the kit. Remount the kit to the radio so it is flush with the front of the radio, then bolt in the dash with the four spacers and longer screws and it will sit flush with the dash and radio. Here is how mine looks, see how it is flush with the dash.

He's not talking about the head unit and the kit, hes talking about the kit and the plastic strip above where it mounts. Look at how recessed it is - mine is even.

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

I think I mis-spoke in my original post. I want the dash kit to sit flush with the surrounding trim.

Sorry!

I was going off what he said and not so much the picture.

Like others said youll have to use the spacers that came with the kit. If you dont have them, washers would have the same effect.

Regardless, my previous statement still stands. By moving the dash kit out and leaving the deck in the same place, you may have clearance issues when the screen slides down and out.

PERFECT!

This is exactly the finished look I wanted. Thanks for everyone's input.
