Steering wheel controls with HU?
Steering wheel controls with HU?
I have read most of the posts asking whether or not the steering controls will work after installing a new head unit. I am thinking about installing a Dual XDVD8281 unit in my Mark LT. My friend says I can purchase a wiring harness at BestBuy which plugs into the back of the HU and maintains all of the steering wheel control functionality.
Can anyone shed more light on this? I do not want to get my dash torn apart only to find out after installation I lost my steering controls.
Thanks

I used one of these. You have to make sure that your headunit accepts one though. It comes with pretty simple instructions. All the diferent wires are for diferent applications. I think I only used one or two if I remember correctly. The people that make them also have a website. http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SWI-JACK-S.../dp/B000AXU764 -Brent
Thanks for the reply. I will call Dual today and see if they make a steering wheel control unit for this model. I do not recall seeing it anywhere in the manual which I read on line.
Most likely this one:

Just had a buddy use this one on his Dodge with his HU that had no remote input in the rear of the HU...he thought it would be easy like the PAC-SWIPS he watched me install with my Pioneer in my truck. It wasn't.

If you are spending money, skip the Dual. You get what you pay for. Try a more reputable brand like Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse, etc.

I am considering the Pioneer 3200BT at BestBuy (because I have a few hundred dollars in store credit), but the sales agent said I can not add a backup camera to the unit. BestBuy is about to release their new line of head units within the next few weeks. I will see which ones they are selling at that time.
Anyone know if the 3200BT has a camera connection?

You absolutely can add a backup cam to this model. I have a 3100 and did so too, and it says right there on Pioneer's page you're good to go!
Take one of the head units out of the box, look at the back of it, and ask him what the brown RCA jack on the left that says "RC IN" is for. Please post experience.

Will do. I am waiting to see what units they plan to carry (if I did not have $265 in store credit I would be shopping elsewhere, but $250 is $250 - nothing to sneeze at). Once I see which units they have in stock - I will determine which ones have rear USB (so I can hide an iPod), an SD card in the front, rear camera ready. Those are about my only "must have's" I have a trip coming up in May and hope to have the unit in by then. My buddy wants to install two monitors in my headrests, but I can't bring myself to take a razor to the leather.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my questions. I will most likely have more once I get down to the install.
