Kenwood NAV Units w Backup Camera?
Kenwood NAV Units w Backup Camera?
I want to install a Kenwood with the Garmin GPS NAV in my 97 F-150. Question is which Kenwood units accept a backup camera: 5140, 7140?
Also, I think I read that the 97 stock radio is strange and needs a special adapter from Metra. Anyone have the part number?
Where is the best place to purchase? Web site address would be appreciated.

I have the 5140 installed in my 06. I have an aftermarket back up camera, so I def know that one has it, as does the 7140 (for a premium price) the xx40 series is being replaced by the xx60 series now and the 40's are being phased out and harder to find, but they are available.
Places like crutchfield don't always have the best price, but they do offer the "outfit my ride" feature that usually will give part numbers for adapter kits, wiring harnesses, and you can alos line up the different models to compare any feature differences.
I always do this first, then start surfing the web for better prices on the model numbers that are supplied. Don't forget that crutchfield offers the installation accessories for free, so you do save some money there as long as the price is competitive to others you may find on the internet. I found many sites with very low prices, however I wanted a place to go when I had a problem, so I overpaid and used a local retailer.
Link to comparison page for 5140, 6140, 7140-- All feature Nave and backup camera inputs... 7140 is motorized flip screen (CD/DVD slot behind screen) I didn't like this as it allowed for larger screen, but motors break)
Also, I "outfitted" a 97 f150 on the site, and it would not allow the use of a double din headunit, so if it can be done with the special dash kit, perhaps someone else on this forum will provide some more info for you (sorry)

Sorry I don't have info about the 97 dash adapter...

I have the earlier Kenwood 5120 - which was replaced by the 5140 now to be replaced by the xx60 as other post said, and the 5120 accepted my after market camera with no problem. I would agree that while you can find a cheaper price than Crutchfield, their customer support and ability to supply various needed mounting hardware, brackets, adapters, and on and on makes them the best deal going. You'll find a cheaper deal but not a better one.
