Double din dash mount help...

I bought a new dvd receiver (JVC KW-AVX810) recently and installed it Saturday. It's pretty heavy and solid. The thing came with a Scosche dash kit, which I had to make work, not really impressed with it. Well I noticed this afternoon driving home from work that the radio is moving a bit when I go over bumps and undulations in the road, like the cheap plastic mounts are flexing because the radio is so heavy. I need to do something about it.

Is the Metra double din dash kit really that much better than the Scosche, being they are both mounted with plastic?

Is there a way to support the back of the radio like the stock radio? I recall it having a rubber bumper that rested into a slot in the interior dash behind the radio.

Also, maybe I could just fab up some metal brackets to stiffen the mount up more.

Has anyone else had this problem? Tips?

Thanks for any help!!!

I made some sheet metal mounts, then folded some foam over and stuck it behind the radio

I've had two JVC DD units in my truck both using the plastic Metra dash kit. Neither have ever moved even the slightest little bit. I agree that being plastic its a little bit underengineered, but the Metra kit is great.

I had both the KW-NX7000 and now the KW-NT1 and neither moved at all using this same mounting method.

I bought a Metra 95-5812 kit for $10 shipped off eBay yesterday. Going to modify the face mount so my HU will sit flush. I can see the difference in the the two kits from images of them. I'm sure the Metra will be the right kit to work with no movement.

I got the Metra kit for mine, I had to make metal "L" brackets. My Alpine is bulky and heavy and I do more offroading than I should be doing. In the first week, my headunit sunk inward about 1/8" because of the plastic tabs bending. I used sheet metal, bent them where I needed, drilled holes for the headunit and dash mount, and just used that. It's close to bulletproof in my opinion.

Yeah. It looks very durable. I just needed extra support because I like to pretend my 07 Screw is an SVT Raptor, or a Wrangler lol.

Yeah I bet. lol If you had a scosche kit you'd be digging your Alpine out of the dash after a round of off roading.
