Double Din Help!
Double Din Help!
Warning: This may be a lot to read, but please help! lol..
hey guys.. I'm seriously considering upgrading my sound system, but I'm kinda stuck on deciding on a head unit replacement. I wouldn't mind keeping the stock headunit, but that would be a waste.. so instead, I'm trying to find a good double din replacement. I've come across 3 decent head units so far.. my main concern is that they are color adjustable.. I must have green lights!!!
Here's what I plan on running..
source - ??????
front comp - Alpine spx-17ref
rear coax - Alpine spr-17s
subs - 2 JL 10w3v3
box - foxacoustics dual 10"
4ch amp - JL 300/4
mono amp - JL 500/1
And here's the headunits I considered.. I'm extremely partial to the Clarion CX609.. I think it looks the best without being too flashy.
Clarion cx609

Kenwood dx503

Sony WX-GT77UI (not really a fan of the circle display, but it has 6ch RCA)

The only thing is that the Clarion and Kenwood only have 4 RCA preouts.. How much of an issue would this be? I've heard you could just use a LOC for the sub amp RCA.. and wire a remote bass control up front and it will all be the same.. Would this work ok? Would this limit anything important?
Thanks in advance.. feel free to make some suggestions.

yea.. the sony is the uglist I've seen so far.. lol
Anywho... price really wasn't too much of an issue.. I just wanted a double din that looked fairly stock, and the Clarion seems to be the best bet. The kenwood looks nice too, but I still prefer the way the Clarion looks. It looks like the Clarion and Kenwood both only have 4 ch RCA preouts, front, rear/sw. I'm just curious how much of an issue this is for controlling the sound system. Would I run the subs amp into the rear/sw preout or run the 4ch amp into the front and rear, then use a LOC and remote bass control?

My Kenwood went out on me after just 4 months, so forget Kenwood! I like the Clarion best anyway. And I ran 1 pair of RCAs to my 4-channel with a Y-connector, and the other RCAs to the mono, and it sounded GREAT! You just can't balance your sound around to individual speakers but I never did that anyway.
Z, you could split the front channel for the front/rear for your 4 channel , and use the rear/sub for the sub. Downside to this is you lose fader. What we for people who want to keep fader is run a 4 channel LOC for the 4 channel amp and just use the rear/sub for the sub.
