I do not know if the cable from Pioneer does, but your regular USB cable will do everything except for show video. It works perfectly. You can control your iPHONE or iPOD with it, it displays the album art. It even charges the iPHONE 3g and the iPOD, so basically you are paying 50 bucks to enable the video... not worth it in my opinion. As for the bypass :
Go to any auto parts store and purchase a four wire relay are wire it up as follows :
The wire from the parking brake from the H/U to 87
Ground to 85 and 30
Remote from the H/U to 86
You could also put a toggle switch in, in case you dont want the relay

When you say wire the 'remote' wire from the HU to the 86 terminal, is that the same wire that will remote your amps, or is it a different wire? Thanks.
my brother and me JUST LITTERALLY got one of these in his f250 and that thing is sweet!, were gonna bypass the dvd Pbrake tomorrow and get it finished, i personally like changing the wallpaper/lights to that hippy multicolor color....
and i got my dash kit and wiring harness ready for my unit when i get it, right now id really like to have the f900bt but i cant find them anywhere cheap (hell to be honest id be happy with my own 3100 if only it had navigation)....

I am looking at the AVH P3100DVD on Ebay Sonicelectronics has it listed for $309.95. They also have a very nice link to many pictures of the unit from all angles. What I would like to know is if the cable for the ipod is really necessary. It doesn't look any different from the cable my iPod Touch came with except for the color. Has anyone tried the original iPod cable to see if it works? They want $39 for that cable. Someone here was questioning viewing a DVD while driving. I hope the unit still works when the truck is on the highway. I want my wife to be able to watch her movies while I drive. I will be looking at that rear camera also. She complaints she can't see behind her when backing up my truck.
Update - I just found out that the State of Florida (where I live) has a law that prohibits installing a TV video device which can be viewed from the driver's seat. Anyone know more about this rule and is it enforced? I also found the remote Sonicelectronics and Amazon. The model number for the remote is CD-R55. The bluetooth unit for this player is over $130. That is one of the features that I am looking for but for that price I may have to forget the bluetooth.

I have the 4100 and have had a DVD in my last 2 trucks for a few years. Don't get caught watching it and pay attention to driving. Pretty simple, common sense. Use at your own discretion. There is a reason why there is a sequence to make the unit think you are parked with the parking brake engaged and then hit "OK" on a screen to confirm.
On the cable: I bought the cable for $50 to make sure it would work on my road trip that I just got back from and it was totally not necessary. The cable only does video and I don't have any videos on my iPhone 3g. I will either resell it or return it because IMO it is not worth it. If I am not listening to local radio, I am watching a DVD, and if I am out of movies and out of town I listen to Pandora on my phone. With the normal cable that hooks an ipod to USB, the album art will show and the controls will work perfectly. Don't waste your money on the cable.
I spoke with someone at the Pioneer Electronics office. In searching their website I found a section that talks about warranty. It says they do not honor the warranty on any unit not sold by an authorized online or retail dealer. I looked up their list of online dearlers and Sonicelctronix is not one of them. According to the guy at Pioneer they are not an authorized dealer or service center. So if something goes wrong with the unit I would have to depend on Sonicelectronix to take care of it. In looking throught their warranty disclaimer it says that if you send the unit in for service and they replace it, the replacement unit may have blemishes and scratches on the screen. I wouldn't want to send a unit in with no scratches to be fixed and get a replacement with scratches on the screen. Amazon is listed as an authorized on line dealer for Pioneer but they only mentioned the home entertainment dept. I have an email in to them asking if Amazon is also authorized for the auto video section. Amazon has the unit for $322 with free shipping. I just have to decide if $13 dollars is worth going to an authorized dealer if I get the ok from Pioneer on Amazon. I found the remote in Amazon for $20 and the Bluetooth unit for $89. I am still going to wait a while on the bluetooth. I checked out many units within the same price range and the Pioneer had by far the best reviews.
I am going to order the wire harness and install kit from crutchfield. Will I need an antena adapter also?

According to a report by NPR News, car stereo theft is down by more than 60% since 1990 to around 400K reports nationwide per year. This is supposed to be due to the decreased cost of producing these units and low internet prices; thieves just can't turn a profit on car stereos anymore. Why would you pay the "black market" price of a AVH-P3100DVD of $275 when you can order one from Sonicelectronix for $329 and have a warranty. Just buy it if you want it. This is what we pay our full coverage insurance for, right?
Nice write up on the HU, I am getting the 4100 for the wifes whip.
can the movies being played in dvd mode be sent to a rear seat monitor while teh front is in radio mode.. my panasonic did this and the kids would wear IR headphones.. I lost my sub in this mode but it kept everybody happy.
