i have a 2002 f150 with the same cd player and i thought about swaping him since i have a aftermarket cd player...

Have you tried using a lens cleaner? I use one regularly with my DVD headunit. If it still skips after using one, then it might be a weak solenoid in the lens aperature (sp?) which would require replacement, those are a pain to try and get repaired. You shouldn't have a problem swapping since your trucks are the same generation.

I actually had to take one apart and physically clean the lens with a q-tip and alcohol. Works perfectly now, but prior to the cleaning, wouldn't even take a disc laser lens cleaner. It was a last resort, and it worked out great.
