Question Steering Wheel Controls Won't Work

Took out the OEM 6 disc non audio phile changer to install a line out converter in my 2004 reg cab F-150 Lariat. After reinstalling headunit everything but the steering wheel audio controls works. The controls for the heat still work as do cruise control. Any ideas on what it may be or how to fix the problem.

check to make sure you didnt damage the wire for the wheel controls at the plug.

I agree.

Sounds like something got messed up with the plug, wires, or something isn't plugged in unless whatever you installed is causing interference but I doubt it.

If you didn't unhook the battery when you pulled it out, you may also have blown a fuse. Check that as well.

Always always always ALWAYS disconnect the battery when wiring stuff or hooking up/installing new audio & entertainment equipment.

If i remember correctly from wiring in my own hvac and radio buttons, the bottons share a power feed, but have different outputs, so if his hvac buttons are working then he has an issue at the radio plug where im guessing he soldered/spliced the line out converter. A fuse would cut the whole circuit, including his HVAC buttons

Take the LOC out and return to factory. Then see if its still not working.

Check and make sure pin 18 (Green/Red) is connected (steering wheel controls). It's not uncommon to bend or push a pin when reinstalling the connector onto the head unit. Of course, make sure you didn't connect pin 18 to your LOC.

A faulty LOC shouldn't have any effect on steering wheel controls. If the other controls work (heater/cruise), I doubt a fuse blew.

If you were splicing into 12V constant, I would have removed power at the battery. Arcing and sparking a loose 12V line behind the dash can be exciting.
