2001 F150 ipod hook up?

A buddy of mine has a 2001 F150 with the single disc cd player. He is wanting to hook up his ipod so that it will play on his factory radio. Tried a couple of fm transmitters and the sound quality sucks. Any ideas on what to use?

Couple Options:

#1 - Pull out the existing head unit and check for aux in jacks
#2 - Buy a new head unit for ~$100 with aux in
#3 - Plug your 1985 boom box w/cassette tape adapter and set it on top of the dash

1. There are no AUX jacks.
2. That would be good, plus gain sound quality.
3. Why not just get the tape adapter?
