Can I swap out the Shaker 500 for my stock OEM 6 disc changer HU in my 06 FX4? I have the audiophile wiring harness and the guy who sold me the truck left a factory 04 subwoofer under the rear seat. I just dont' have an audiophile HU and can pick up a Shaker 500 for 100 bucks.....

 

I put a shaker 500 in my 04, the only thing i needed to get was an antenna adapter from circut city

 

How did it sound? Much better than the standard OEM 6 disc HU?

 

I put a shaker 500 in my 05 FX4 a few months ago. I did NOT have the audiophile, just the basic crappy system and no sub. The shaker was quite an improvement over what I had at that time. The ONLY issue I could think of was for some reason the display was always dim (like at night when your headlights come on) and was hard to see during the day when the sun was glaring on it. I've read online that that is an incompatability with the shaker, it does not interface with the trucks programming or something. I read that you need to take the truck to the dealer and they can flash the computer or get a code from the original stereo to program the new one with in order for the lighting to dim accordingly with the headlights.... The dealer wasnt any help but only bc I had trashed my previous radio by that point and they couldnt get the code (it was busted so I figured I wouldnt need it anyway). So I just dealt with it since it really wasnt THAT big of a deal. That was MY personal shaker 500 experience, and I hope it helps.

I removed the shaker saturday and installed aftermarket ALL around!
