07 Dash Kit Question

Went to Best Buy yesterday and bought the Alpine 9874 and had them install it as I don't know jack about car audio stuff. Anyways I asked the guy is that how the dash kits are with the unit sitting back and he said they are like that so when someone looks inside your car with the faceplate out they cannot tell you have any kind of a setup. Here are a couple of pictures of what I am referring to.

Shouldn't it all be level like when the stock radio was in?

Stu

unfortunately not all dash kits are created equal. there are other dash kits you can use that look better than that. i think scosche and ai kits look better than that. i believe you have a metra kit

Yeah, they are all hit or miss but that one really looks bad. I'd try an American International or Scosche kit and see which one looks better. Before I got my Avic D3 I had an Alpine CDA-9856 (somewhat similar to what you have) in my '07 and used a Scosche kit. It wasn't all bowed and recessed into the dash like yours is. I did have to shim out the top just a bit with a few washers to get it just right flush with the dash though. Good luck!

That looks like crap! Even if the kit is not the best, I find it hard to believe they couldnt make it look a little better.

That dash kit looks horrible. Buy a new dash kit and install it yourself. Ford makes these radios super easy to pull.
