Sub in a factory Head Unit?????
Sub in a factory Head Unit?????
I have a 06 super cab with the single disc CD player. I don't think its an audiophile because the truck doesn't have a factory sub. I was wondering if I could hook up a sub to my factory HU, and if so what all I need to do it. Im trying to build a system piece by piece, and I don't have enough money to buy the HU I want yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check my gallery. I've got a 6 channel 1200W amp and a couple of Infinity woofers hooked to my factory head unit. I went with an amp that offered speaker level and RCA inputs. No need for a LOC.
Instead of hacking into the factory stereo harness, I just make a patch cable from a Metra 70-5520 & 71-5520 harness. Using bullet or blade quick disconnects on the speaker input/output, 12 VDC switched and GND... you just connect your amp or other equipment into the patch cable. The patch cables makes it easy to add or remove components as finances allow.

Where do you typically place a LOC? Behind the dash trim, right? To adjust the gain, you have to pull off the dash trim and squeeze a tweeker in there. With my choice of amp, I just go to the control panel and all the gain, bypass and filter controls are easily accessable. I can fine tune the sound level and quality at any time. I am running 6 channels in my truck, so occasionally I like to bump up the gain on a channel, or tweek the bass boost on a channel for a particular CD.

The best way would be to go buy a LOC and wire it up from there.
