Help with my D3 Settings Please

I just installed my D3 and it looks and works great thanks to all your help on this forum. Now I want it to sound as good as it looks. I understand that each system will have different sound settings but I was wondering what settings other D3 users were running and what I should use for a baseline before I tweak my custom EQ. BTW I am running Alpine Type R components up front, Type R 2ways in rear doors and JL Stealth box under seat.

EQ curve? What setting? SBass and Powerfull seem to be way too much bass

Frequency band? Low-Mid-High?

Q Factor? Wide-Wide1-Narrow-Narrow2?

Sub cut off frequency? 50-80-125hz?

High Pass Filter on or off? if on 50-80-125hz?

Thanks for any advice

As you indicated above there really is no such thing as a cookie cutter configuration for sound quality. That said, I'll give you a little of what I have. I currently have a D3, Type S 5x7's up front, and a shallow Rockford Fosgate 10" sub. I run the HPF at 80Hz to my doo speakers. I run the sub LPF at 125Hz to the sub but have it manually tuned on my amp to cut off around 100Hz or so. This allows for a little bit of overlap and cleans the sound up a bit. Even with that said, I notice an obvious gap between the doors and sub. I currently am running the doors off the deck and the mid-bass is lacking. I plan to remedy that by running amplified components up front. I'm still undecided if it's worth hacking my door to accept the 6.5" woofers, but I don't think I'll be happy with the mid-bass performance going any smaller.

Do not try to run ANY loudness or dynamic stage settings. That sent SQ into the toilet completely regardless of the setting, at least on mine. I run a custom EQ but started with "Powerful" as a base. From there I just dropped the low end curve a notch or two each, seems to be decent.

Overall though you're going to have to find what works best for you. Everyone's ears are different and all systems sound different. Where you have the gain set for your sub amp, how tall you are (distance from speakers), how the speakers are mounted, etc. Everything comes into play and personal preference is just that, personal. Good luck getting it set to your liking..

One other note. I find that most people have the gain on their sub amp(s) turned up entirely too high. You want the sounds to blend as if they're being played from the same souce. If the sub gain is too high it will be almost obnoxious and out of "tune" with the rest of the system.

There are several suggested ways to tune your system. I personally have found the old fashion way the simplist. To do it my way (nothing against anyone elses way) do the following:

* Turn the amp gain ALL THE WAY down.
* Play an average song that closely matches your musical preference.
* Turn your volume up until the door speakers are as loud as they can go without ANY distortion.
* Slowly turn the sub amp gain up until the bass is perfectly blended with the music to YOUR ears. Obviously make sure the sub is not bottoming out or distorting. If your sub bottoms out before it's perfectly blended turn the gain down a tad anyway. With your setup though that shouldn't be an issue unless you are way under-powering the sub.

That's it. That will match the sub to your door speakers and the volume **** will control both perfectly together.

If you have a bass **** with your amp make sure you mount it in a convenient location. I find myself adjusting it frequently to maximize the SQ on a variety of music.

Good luck!
