Question Need help on a head unit switcharooo thanks!!!

Hi!
I'm new to the forum, and to be real honest I never thought that Id needed a forum for my mom's freestar.... anyhow, the thing is my mom's head unit got fried.

The model number of the head unit is
3F2T-18C815-EE (6 cd changer, no mp3 support)
and my mom's van is a 05.....

I have a friend who has a 2008 f150 that has the same stereo that my mom's van has.... he installed an aftermarket head unit on his truck and gave me his stock stereo for my mom's van...
the model number of his head unit is
7L3T-18C815-LA (6 cd changer, with mp3 support)

They both have the same harness and I assumed it was going to be a plug and play installation, however no luck with the following items:
Steering wheel controls are not working
Rear DVD entertainment system is not working
other than that every thing's fine.

Any help would be widely appreciated since I have my moms van dash all taken apart....
Ive already tried plugging the new radio in and disconnecting the negative battery terminal (hoping it will reset the computer) with no luck

Do I need a dealer action here????

again thanks in advance and I hope someone could help me out on this one.....
Best Regards

Assuming it is compatable you'll need to have it programmed by a Ford dealer. Some people claim their dealer can do it no problem, some claim the dealers look at them like they're crazy when they ask about having it programmed. I don't know what they'll charge or how many dealers you'll have to call before you can get it done.

The thing is that I called the dealer and told me that they are supposed to be plug and play....... I guess Ill pay them a visit tomorrow to talk to the manager..... or someone who actually knows

You are best off getting an Aftm Radio. Because those are not plug and Play.
They need to be specifically programmed for the vehicle they are in.

The dealer will not be able to program this for you. It takes a specialty tool and there is only a handful out there.

If you dont like that option, buy a new OEM deck programmed for your VIN. My guess is around $300-450
