got an Avic-D3
got an Avic-D3
Picked a brand new one up today for a great deal. I have searched alot on here but didn't find a few specifics.
I'm switching from an Alpine so I will need to get the Pioneer Sirius tuner box, the Pioneer I-pod interface cable, and a Bluetooth box which makes it not that stellar of a deal but still in the average range. I also would like to get a backup camera so I may as well get it all at once and have all the install done. I listen to the Ipod and Sirius 90% of the time so the DVD based Nav doesn't bother me.
I'm heading over to Avic411 to read about the mods (particularly the parking brake/video mod) but could use some help from you F150 guys:
What is the wire location and color of the VSS (vehicle speed senor wire) or is it already in the factory radio harness for the factory radios speed sensitive volume function?
Where did you tap into the reverse sensing wire? I have a center console and shifter so I would imagine it would be easy to tap into a wire in there. Wire colors and location would be helpful also.
What backup camera could I use? Obviously want quality but not a sky-high price.
Everything else looks pretty straightforward. I'm not running any amps/subs so the rest of the install should be easy. I've never had a vehicle without an aftermarket radio so I am fairly competent when it comes to installs and am very picky about details...hopefully all goes well once I get all my stuff.

i should be getting mine in this week, but not sure which wires to splice into. avic411 will help you with this. i have not gone there to look at this time but will when i get ready to install. let me know if you get it up and running. and which wires to go with.
Not a pro, but here are my opinions.
I would think the VSS wire should be in the factory harness, i can't see how else the factory speed sense control would work. I bet the aftermarket wiring harness has it all ready for you. But I will be in the same boat as you soon once I order my D3, so let us know what you find.
Reverse wire. I have no idea on its location, maybe someone has gone through this and will give you the details. I will tell you, on my previous truck (03 F150) I spent a few minutes looking for the reverse wire, and said screw this. I realised that I was already running wire out to the back of the truck for the camera, so I threw the wire for the reverse into the loom as well. The reverse wire from the HU harness was actually about 20 feet long, so it may be common to run the wire to the back. It was simple to take off the tail light and tap into the reverse wire right there at the light.
Good luck and keep us updated with your install.

For the rest of us that would like to know the answer, a little investigating revealed the VSS wire is pin 14 of the radio harness. It is Gray/Black wire, but your harness may not have wire in this pin if your stereo does not support speed sense volume control.

The reverse wire was black and pink on my 03, at the tail light. Not sure if its the same for an 05 but they do tend to keep the same colors I have noticed. If your going to run loom to the back for a camera its pretty simple to throw an extra wire in there and tap in at the light harness.
