In-dash touchscreen

I was wondering...should i go for a true in-dash touchscreen (one that takes up the whole radio spot) or should i spring for a flipout screen? security is of the essence to me, because i live in the DFW area, where crime rate is as high as a hippy at a jimmy hendrix concert. which would be the best option, and is there any advantages/disadvantages to each one?

thanks in advance

I just put the DNX-7100 in my truck. I love it. And my opinion on fold out screens is that the more moving parts, the more parts that are likely to fail.

true that. i have a panasonic 8100 and i leave the tilt out at the second setting. over time, the head unit has become really shaky and loose at one end, so thats why i was thinking of upgrading to a screen, plus being able to watch a movie on a long trip with passengers.

does your DNX-7100 have built in navigation? and i forgot who its made by...

yes, it's Kenwood. Built in Nav, doesn't require DVD either. Search on here or go to crutchfield for specs. I got mine off ebay for about $700.

i have the Jensen vm9512 with bluetooth, nav, satellite, aux ports, the works. Ill snap some pics in a few minutes. I would reccommend flip up, mainly because it looks like a regular radio when closed. (more or less)

shiny in dash touchscreen = motive to break in.

The less they see the better. Good thing is the radio has a password on it you personally set, no matter how many times you reset the radio, password sticks. $800 - $1000 bucks worth of a brick for the sorry SOB who steals it.

I love it. Works amazingly, call features are great in it too. Bluetooth is built in, nothing to buy.

Honestly it's personal preference. At a glance the double din touch screens look stock whereas single din radios clearly look aftermarket. That said, if someone is going to break into your truck I believe both would equally motivate them to do so.

I installed the Avic-D3 but there are a lot of fine options out there. I'm still anxious for someone to try out the new Kenwood 5120, which is a replica of the D3 but with a matte finish.

Good luck whichever way you go..

I just put a Pioneer Avic Z1 in the dash and I'm amazed with it. I got mine on e-bay for $751 shipped. The install was extremely easy (I've never installed a HU before) and it works like a charm.

The Z2 can be found on eBay refurbed for as low as under $900. New it will cost you probably at least $1500 from a reputable authorized dealer. Crutchfield had it for $2199 last I checked but it was a package including several other goodies..

I get things very cheap... Because I am an installer. I think i got mine for abt 1200ish.. But I also had a Alpine W200 in there. But that Z2 was the best spent 1200 EVER!

I had 15% and I live in NEW ORLEANS... Never even had a worry. I also made it hard as a MF to get out if you didnt know how it went in...
