I am going to be purchaseing a AVIC-D3 or AVIC-Z2 within two week. I have really researched both units and i just cannot make up my mine. Price really has nothing to do with my decision because i can get really really good deals on both. I really want the Z2 for the voice command, bigger screen, tilt, and hard drive for music but i have heard really negitive things about the unit. Like the hard drive not working and the unit just not performing in heat. Well i live in GA and it gets really hot here in the summer time. I need my unit to work in heat. Is the AVIC-Z2 really that superior? All i really see is the hard drive that doesn't work and the voice command.

The AVIC-D3 is really nice to and seems to not have any issues. Its a very clean unit and has some +'s the Z2 doesn't. Please leave opinions! I need some comments and opinons to help me make my decision. Oh and the single slot for the AVIC-D3 really is not a downside to me i will rarely use the NAVI but if i do i dont mind the radio if i have to. Thanks in Advance!!!

 

I love my Z2. The major reasons I did that over the D3 is:

• The Music Library
• The Text to Speech (It will tell you street names to turn on)
• Looks cleaner
• Bigger screen
• Tilt.

Ya, the Ipod integration is definately not the best. But itll work in a pinch. To be honest the only thing I use on my Z2 is the library. Its INCREDIBLE!! Instead of seeing a CD and buying it/DL it, I just borrow it for 5 min and POOF! I own it.

I have had the unit for almost a year and am just now having to update the firmware because of the library going bezerk once every other month... But its cool with me...

I really want the Z2 and i can get a great deal on it. It looks awesome in the dash but i'm so scared of the all the problems i have heard about. What are the real issues? Freezing? Overheating? Not Working?

 

It will freeze because it was too hot in the car. I have had it happen once. All you have to do is make sure the firmware is updated. Its free from Pioneer.

What can the Z2 do that the D3 cant?

Harddrive, Voice Command, Tilt, and whatelse?
